This video was made to introduce the Enabling Remote Activity project to Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences academics and support staff involved in the teaching of fieldwork. It has been used in evaluation trials, workshops and conference presentations. We wanted to demonstrate how an innovative technology supported approach could improve the accessibility of fieldwork courses in difficult to reach locations. The video explains the key elements of the ERA portable communications toolkit: live video, audio and high resolution still images over a self-contained and portable Wi-Fi network. It has proved to be an essential tool for rapidly communicating the nature of the ERA toolkit and how to enable students to actively participate with remote colleagues in fieldwork locations that they cannot access directly themselves.
